About Hanover Grain

Hanover Grain is a family business located at 1055 Hanover Avenue in Norfolk, Virginia. The business has its roots in a simple woodworking shop started by Allen 'Shorty' Kinnison in Portsmouth, Virginia.

The shop, initially named Shorty's Craft Shop, was involved in custom furniture making, wood carving, and wood turning. The business was known for its minimal waste policy, with unique characteristics of the wood, like knots and scars, being incorporated into the custom furniture and goods.

Over time, the business evolved, and Hanover Grain was born in 2017. The company is now involved in curating reclaimed timber beams for use in mantles and industrial/commercial furniture. The shop also maintains a private stock of hardwoods from around the world.

Hanover Grain is committed to putting every part of its supply into use productively for as long as possible. The company creates products from offcuts of rough lumber that would otherwise be discarded, with the goal of creating items that will last for generations.

The business can be contacted at nate@hanovergrain.com or (757) 647-9387 for more information.
